Thank you, BCM!

YRNO recently learned that we’ll be receiving a 3-year grant from BCM, the most significant support in our history. Thanks to this new funding, YRNO will expand its REbuild program in order to engage, empower, employ and educate the youth of New Orleans—specifically at-risk or low-income youth that do not have the opportunities that other young people might have. As part of that expansion, we will also expand three other programs and strengthen their connection to REbuild.

YRNO’s Reforming Employment build program—or REbuild—gives young people access to construction-based jobs at YRNO work sites. It provides unemployed or underemployed youth a living wage and professional training in the construction field. REbuild employees learn how to coordinate build plans and budget. In addition, participants receive mentorship and leadership training. The youth are given the support needed to complete their GED or attend college.

Expansion of the REbuild program will be a comprehensive and intertwined approach. As a result of our planned efforts, we anticipate 120 youth will receive full or part-time construction job opportunities through REbuild during the grant period. Some will come from our expanded Future Leaders Initiative (FLI) and Free Enterprise Leadership Team (FELT). Approximately 600 students will matriculate through six FLI sessions at diverse schools—doubling our current annual impact—while six Free Enterprise Leadership Teams will go through the process of buying, rehabilitating and selling one home per group. One additional Project HOMEwork house will be rebuilt per year for a total of three more homes through the term of the grant.

Thank you, BCM!
