Service Learning activities kick off 2017

Thanks to support from the Joe W. and Dorothy Dorsett Brown Foundation, YRNO’s mission to engage youth in the betterment of the New Orleans community has grown in the past few years to include school partnerships for service learning activities. This school year, in partnership with the Brown Foundation, YRNO is coordinating service learning at ReNEW Accelerated High School, Jesuit High School, Livingston Collegiate, and Holy Rosary Academy.

This month alone, students at local high schools have learned valuable skills using power tools, as well as the importance of community engagement on and off their schools’ campuses.

Service Learning is often challenging for schools to incorporate into learning goals, and YRNO teaches service learning through the 6 steps as outlined by the Brown Foundation and other nationwide organizations: Student Investigation, Preparation, Action, Reflection, Demonstration, and Evaluation.
