Summer is also a busy time for youth around the country to get out and volunteer, and YRNO is lucky enough to have about 200 volunteers helping out on our jobsites this summer. Kicking off summer around Memorial Day, the girls from the Laurel School volunteered during their full-service trip with YRNO, which included a swamp tour, bowling at Rock-N-Bowl, museums, meals, snoballs, and more. Summer REbuild RECAP!

As usual, summer at Youth Rebuilding New Orleans was fun, busy, and HOT! While we work with over 200 volunteers in the summer, YRNO shifts focus to our local youth job-training internship, the REbuild Program. This year, 2 cohorts of 21 youth worked to complete the yellow house and community builds while also completing training workshops on career readiness, soft skills, personal finance, social justice, mental health, investing, social media, and sex education. Application for REbuild Summer Job-training Program

Applications are available for YRNO’s paid job-training program: REbuild! The program will run July 9-August 3, Monday-Friday 9am-1pm. Learn hands-on skills as well as personal finance, leadership, and job-readiness skills that will last a lifetime, while working alongside other local youth. YRNO Joins Healthy Block Initiative

Youth Rebuilding New Orleans is excited to announce our participation in the Healthy Block Initiative taking place on the St. Ann Street and North White Street block in the Bayou St. John neighborhood. In partnership with other local organizations (Urban Conservancy, SOUL NOLA, and Green Light New Orleans), the Healthy Block Initiative offers neighbors in the homes surrounding YRNO’s worksite: Trees, Pavement Removal, and Rain barrels to help manage stormwater in the neighborhood. YRNO Designated as Lead Agency to Organize New Orleans Campaign for Global Youth Service Day 2018

We are excited to announce that Youth Rebuilding New Orleans will serve as a 2018 Global Youth Service Day Lead Agency, mobilizing New Orleans’ young people to lead volunteer service projects that help meet community needs.  Global Youth Service Day is an international event on April 20-22, 2018 that celebrates the power of young people. Winternship and Community Projects Kick Off 2018

This year, while many students were relaxing over winter break, YRNO’s 6 Winter Interns (Winterns!) and Site Supervisors completed 2 high impact community projects: rebuilding a shed and planter boxes in Ms. Gloria’s community garden on Claiborne, and painting the interior space of Burnell’s upcoming internet cafe in the Lower 9th Ward.   As a pilot program, YRNO is proud of the leadership of our Site Supervisors in planning, supervising, and helping keep track of the budget for the Winternship Program.
