Youth Rebuilding Baton Rouge

In the weeks since the devastating floods in the Baton Rouge area, YRNO has been mobilizing volunteers and staff to help homeowners gut and rebuild. Tomorrow, YRNO is facilitating a furniture donation day in partnership with Rooms To Go and St. Vincent de Paul of Baton Rouge. Local high school volunteers are heading out at 7am to start unloading the furniture at 8:30, and if you would like to volunteer, please email Thank you Rooms To Go for your generosity and St. Vincent de Paul for your expertise!

Partnering with NENA

NENA, or the Neighborhood Empowerment Network Association, is a nonprofit organization that operates in the Lower Ninth Ward that offers assistance to displaced residents. Last week, YRNO staff and volunteers helped gut out a home that hadn’t been touched since Hurricane Katrina 11 years ago. YRNO staff also helped with landscaping at another NENA property. Everyone found the experience very inspirational and touching, and it demonstrates that there’s still work to be done. Last week, YRNO announced the departure of our Executive Director, William Stoudt. William served the community and YRNO for over 10 years, and he will be sincerely missed. William leaves behind a strong team that will continue to make Youth Rebuilding New Orleans an agent of change. Join YRNO for the Blue House Bash!

This Wednesday, July 20th come celebrate with YRNO as we show off our newest house in our Bayou St. John teacher village. YRNO is hiring!

Youth Rebuilding New Orleans is hiring three Program Development Coordinators for the 2016-2017 Louisiana Delta Service Corps Term! The position will be based in high schools during the school year and will also assist and instruct YRNO’s summer pre-apprenticeships. For 2016 YRNO is piloting two new programs at partner schools: a dropout reduction strategy as well as a summer opportunities placement strategy. These two programs will require approximately 50% of the LDSC time to develop materials, implement, and evaluate the pilots. 25% of the LDSC time should be used implementing school and teacher projects, and 25% of their time should […]

2751 St Ann Nears Completion!

One of our houses on St. Ann is finally nearing completion! YRNO bought the 2751 St. Ann site in October 2014 as part of a collection of sites on the St. Ann and North White block. Site supervisors Prince and Danielle began construction on the house, with the help of volunteers, in March of 2015. Service Learning with Sci Academy

Keep an eye out on the road for YRNO’s yellow box truck’s makeover.YRNO’s Youth Engagement Coordinators Emily and Maya have been working with students at Sci Academy the past few weeks to help with a service learning program. Students in Ms. Aubrey’s after school art club are helping design and paint a mural on YRNO’s box truck, the primary mode of transportation for any tools to and from work sites. The Give NOLA Day website had so much activity that it experienced a server failure, and many of our donors were unable or had difficulties making donations or properly accessing the site. Families Serve: Volunteering with YRNO as a Family

Over the years, YRNO has had a multitude of volunteers from across the country come to serve with the organization to help rebuild New Orleans. There are three main types of volunteers that serve with YRNO: schools, corporate groups and families. This year alone we have had around a dozen families come to volunteer with us ranging from a day to a full work week of service.
