We are excited to announce that Youth Rebuilding New Orleans will serve as a 2018 Global Youth Service Day Lead Agency, mobilizing New Orleans’ young people to lead volunteer service projects that help meet community needs.  Global Youth Service Day is an international event on April 20-22, 2018 that celebrates the power of young people. Winternship and Community Projects Kick Off 2018

This year, while many students were relaxing over winter break, YRNO’s 6 Winter Interns (Winterns!) and Site Supervisors completed 2 high impact community projects: rebuilding a shed and planter boxes in Ms. Gloria’s community garden on Claiborne, and painting the interior space of Burnell’s upcoming internet cafe in the Lower 9th Ward.   As a pilot program, YRNO is proud of the leadership of our Site Supervisors in planning, supervising, and helping keep track of the budget for the Winternship Program. YRNO Wins Starbucks Upstanders Grant

YRNO is happy to announce that we won $25,000 from the Starbucks Foundation Upstanders Challenge, which awards more than half of a million dollars in grants to charities that reflected the values of “Upstanders.” A special thanks goes to Kate Marsh from Ben Franklin High School, who created our winning video entry. Check out her work, here. Thousands of organizations entered, and social media buzz from supporters like you allowed YRNO to reach the final round of 40 videos. YRNO’s 2017 Christmas Gift

YRNO is pleased to announce a special gift for the New Orleans community this Christmas season, a Kris Kringle exchange between homeowners and youth. Homeowners in need of home repairs this winter will receive essential services free of charge, and local youth will earn Christmas cash. We are thrilled to be able to provide our neighbors a joyful home for the holidays, and also provide an essential experience for our young people outside of school. 10 openings are now available for local youth to gain work experience and serve the New Orleans community through part-time “winternships” with YRNO during the […]

Kicking Off Saturday Service Days

This past Saturday, YRNO hosted Jesuit High School, Ben Franklin High School’s YRNO Club, and Boys Hope Girls Hope on site for a HUGE local volunteer effort! We were reminded of YRNO’s roots as teenagers from around the city came together to beautify the neighborhood, learn essential carpentry skills, and follow the lead of 3 talented young leaders: YRNO Site Supervisors Isaiah, Channin, and Jevone. Summer REbuild Program Highlights

It’s been a busy summer here at Youth Rebuilding New Orleans! The sale of the “Blue House” on St. Ann was finalized, the “Purple House” is about to be listed for sale, and 431 volunteers from around the country worked with YRNO on hundreds of different projects, providing labor savings of over $51K in recovery and rebuilding efforts in New Orleans. Apprentices, Job Corps, and openings for YRNO summer jobs program

Youth Rebuilding New Orleans is proud to announce a new partnership providing Work Based Learning experiences for trainees at New Orleans Job Corps. Through the partnership, YRNO provides on-the-job training for apprentices in the carpentry field, as well as opportunity for leadership in supervising and teaching volunteers. The team here at Youth Rebuilding New Orleans is excited to announce two huge donations! On Tuesday, May 2, while 30 Kenner Discovery Health Sciences Academy students and 12 Miami Dade College students volunteered in Hollygrove and on St. Ann Street, donations rolled in for Give NOLA Day 2017, and YRNO received an incredible donation from Rooms To Go as well.   As part of Rooms To Go’s Covington Store Grand Opening, Rooms To Go donated a portion of opening day sales to Youth Rebuilding New Orleans. March Madness 2017

For the “spring break season” from late February through March, YRNO was again lucky enough to host and work with hundreds of young people volunteering from around the country to further engage youth in the betterment of the New Orleans community. Students from Akron’s Lebron James Family Foundation, University of Calgary, University of Virginia, NOVA Southeastern University, Marquette University, University of Central Florida Honors College, USF St. Petersburg, the Bethlehem Center in Tennessee, Elon University, Holton Arms School, SALT Travel, and UC State San Bernadino all pitched in at projects around the city.
