New properties!

Youth Rebuilding New Orleans is now the proud owner of four new properties on St. Ann Street in the Bayou St. John neighborhood, three houses and one vacant lot. We’ll start gutting and renovating this weekend, so this is your last chance to see them in their blighted “before” condition!

Penn State and Ohio State

On Saturday we had a group of Penn State and Ohio State alumni volunteering at our South Scott Street side project helping with caulking and more. The Nittany Lion partisans and the “Cajun Buckeyes” even got along prior to their gridiron showdown, a thriller won by Ohio State in double overtime. Come on back any time, y’all! Caulking in the nooks and crannies.   Cutting time!   Caulk prep.   Transporting siding.   Dvhante shows how it’s done.   Chris supervises the caulkers.   Down the line.   Filling the gaps.   Reverse angle.   Witnessing perfection.   Cutting some […]

Sci Academy Service Day

This week our own Sandy Stibitz checked in from her post at Sci Academy with some news… As YRNO’s Youth Engagement Coordinator at Sci Academy, I’ve spent the past two months working with the office of co-curricular development to integrate community service and service learning into the school’s culture. The year has gotten off to an exciting start: this past weekend Sci Academy hosted its first ever Community Service Day with ‘Ween Dream, a local nonprofit that takes provides free Halloween costumes to kids whose families cannot afford them. 25 scholars came out at 9:00 AM on a Saturday to […]

Tulane ZBT

Today we welcomed two shifts of volunteers from Zeta Beta Tau at Tulane to our South Scott Street side project. We always give special thanks to student groups that can come out on a weekday, when we have greater need. These fraternity brothers were great! Way to go, guys!   How many brothers does it take to start an engine?     Our favorite videographer gets an interview for the Super Service Challenge.     What can we do with this wood?   Getting framed.   Let’s do this right.   Sweeping his cares away.   Prince provides direction.   […]

YRNO on the media trail!

It was an early start today at YRNO! This morning our team visited WWL radio and WGNO-TV to promote our recent sale of the house at 318 South Salcedo to a local teacher as part of our Project HOMEwork program. William and Jack both spoke with Monica Pierre on the radio side and William sat down with Anne Cutler for the TV spot. You can listen to the radio interview here and watch “The 411” television segment here. Along with Monica and Anne, we want to thank Lindsey Rousselle and Veronica Ridgley at Gambel Communications for setting up the interviews! […]

Ben Franklin

On Saturday we had a group of nine volunteers from Ben Franklin High School in New Orleans working at our South Scott Street side project. There were hammers and it got messy, but they got the job done, as you can see below! Solitude.     We can do this together.     Spotting the camera.     Is this a prehistoric cell phone?   Time for a little chat.

Holy Rosary

Today we had a group of local students from Holy Rosary volunteering at our South Scott Street side project. The theme of the day was “heights,” as you can see below.     Buzzing with activity.

John Paul the Great

This week we have a group from John Paul the Great Academy in Lafayette staying with us in our bunkhouse and volunteering at our South Scott Street side project. They’re participating in the Super Service Challenge too! Check out the action below! Group pose.   Competitive floor wrecking.   Gettin’ high.   Sweeping her cares away.   Bend!   A drop in the bucket.     Dust storm.   Workin’ the corner.   Everybody loves painting.   Hammering his foot?   Fill ‘er up.   We need a ramp!
