St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church

This week we have a group of volunteers from St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Richmond, Virginia working with us. They’ll be at multiple sites as the week progresses, but today we started them out at Miss Anne’s house on Alvar Street, cleaning up, scraping paint and more. Check out the photos below. Hoos in the house! Interior expertise.     Team scraping.     Getting down and dirty.     Up close and personal.   Team photo.

Sid Jacobson JCC, part deux

The Sid Jacobson JCC volunteer group may have come and gone, but we won’t forget them, from working on our sites at South Salcedo and 10th Street to having lunch in our Hope Street office and washing down their jambalaya and alligator pasta with a King Cake baby. We already posted pictures of their efforts at South Salcedo, but below are some from their work at 10th Street. Come on back any time, y’all! Masked invaders.   Striking a pose.     What’s behind here?   I’ll measure; you supervise.         No job too small.   Working […]

Tulane Phi Sigma Pi

This past Saturday, we had Tulane’s Phi Sigma Pi out at our 10th Street work site. We thank them for getting busy working on sheetrock and more! “What is up there?”   Painting the corners.   Getting some sun.   Hammering it home.

Sid Jacobson JCC

This week we have a group of 29 students and 4 chaperones from Sid Jacobson JCC in New York with us, split between our work sites at South Salcedo and 10th Street. The group at South Salcedo got started this morning putting up tar paper on the walls–measuring, cutting and stapling up a storm. The visual evidence is below.       Atop the scaffolding.       Team measuring.

Thanks to Bill Capo and WWL-TV!

The outpouring of community support after last month’s burglary was incredible thanks to Bill Capo’s action report on WWL-TV, and he returned to do a follow-up story. You can view it below!   Bill does his intro next to our trailer full of tools.

Tulane Volleyball

Today YRNO hosted the Tulane indoor and outdoor volleyball teams at Miss Anne’s Alvar rebuild site. Tasked with evaluating and sorting parquet and laminate flooring, 17 student-athletes, 2 coaches and the squad’s program coordinator got busy. Those on hand were players Amber Bennett, Alexis Clark, Miah Diirell, Lauren Etta, Ally Frank, Makenzie Frieden, Hannah Holmes, Tea Juric, Amy Lanski, Courtney Liddle, Cori Martone, Annie Shurtz, Sarah Strasner, Olivia Utt, Grace Weaver, Jacqueline Wegner and Anna Wruck, coaches Wayne Holly and Jaye Loyd, and program coordinator Chelsey Richter. We thank our friends at Tulane athletics so much, now having spent three […]

Xavier University

Today we had Xavier University students from Dr. Sharlene DeCuir’s classes volunteering at our South Salcedo and 10th Street rebuild sites. At South Salcedo, Prince had the crew painting, caulking and cleaning. After so many cold days in recent weeks, the weather was perfect! Professor Holmes demonstrates proper painting technique…and entertains the crowd, of course.     Can we paint over our shadows?   Look at this assembly line of efficiency…   …and from the reverse angle.     Team painting.   Team caulking.   I’ll caulk, you paint.     Clean up crew.
